The Best of the Palisades

  • Location: High Sierra, CA
  • Type of Adventure:  Mega classic alpine rock climbing.
Mount Sill with the Swiss Arete dropping, in a ribbon of sun, from the summit. On this trip we opted for a very high camp for aesthetic purposes. 

  • Season: June, July, August. 
  • Prerequisite Skills: Basic multi-pitch alpine rock climbing.   
  • Best Lodging Type: Backcountry camping.  
  • Nearest Airport: Mammoth Lakes, CA. Or Los Angeles, CA.
  • Best trip length: 5 days. 
  • Advance logistics required: Generally, wilderness permits here are pretty available. With even a little flexibility we can assemble a trip a couple weeks ahead.

    • Approach to Third Lake campsite
    • Climb Venusian Blind (5.7) or Sun Ribbon Arete (5.10a)
    • Move camp to Palisade Glacier.
    • Climb the Swiss Arete on Mount Sill (5.7)
