2019 Year in Review. Work

Let’s do it… Let’s wrap 2019 and charge forward. Looking back, some stats on my work year. Examined alongside data since 2012. Just ‘cause.

Some explanation.

“Field days worked” is exactly that. And nothing more. Trip prep, travel time, and other administrative time is not counted in this.

“Summit Percentage” is an amalgamation. First I sort for all the trips where some particular peak or route is the objective. Of those trips where we had a particular route or peak in mind, the “summit percentage” is the likelihood that we made it through everything we set out to do.

“Employee” and “Self Employed”. I have to work, in most areas of the United States, through a local company with appropriate (and usually exclusive) permits. Sometimes I can work through my own company. These numbers reflect how I split my time.

“Returning or Organic clients”. This is the percentage of work volume that I have “drummed up” myself, either with brand new guests or with folks I have worked with prior.

“Percentage worked solo”. As opposed to directly with one or more co guides.

“Nights away from home”. This includes wilderness time with guests and includes all kinds of travel associated directly with guiding work.
